Minerals to Use With Caution

There are many minerals that contain either a high heavy metal content or toxic substance. These minerals should not be used for an elixir and handled with care.

Please wash hands after handling these stones.

for elixirs. Safe if enclosed completely in quartz.


Amazonite


Contains traces of
copper, which is toxic.


Azurite


Coloring is the result of copper, which is
toxic.


Bronchantite


Contains poisonous/toxic copper


Boji Stones


Unknown stone/mineral types – would consider
toxic


Chalcopyrite


aka Peacock Ore contains copper and sulfur
which can be toxic


Celestite

Slightly soluble in
water, unfit for elixirs


Cinnabar


Contains mercury which can be poisonous/toxic
Wash hands after holding. Do not touch hands to eyes or mouth while holding.
Use in a well ventilated area as mercury can transform to vapors at body temperature.


Cobaltite


Contains harmful arsenic


Conichalcite


Contains poisonous/toxic copper


Copper

Not suitable for elixirs,
high levels of copper!?!


Crocoite


Contains poisonous/toxic levels of Lead. Wash
hands after holding. Do not touch hands to eyes or mouth while holding


Chrysocolla


AKA Gem Silica Contains poisonous/toxic copper


Cuprite


Contains poisonous/toxic copper


Dioptase


Contains poisonous/toxic copper


Galena


Contains high amounts of lead which can be
poisonous


Halite


Dissolves in water
(Its salt, it won't harm you but you won't have a crystal anymore!)


Hematite


Unfit for elixir use–will rust with prolonged
exposure in liquid


Lapis Lazuli


Pyrite inclusions may contain poisonous/toxic Sulfur
if they develop a white powder on the pyrite.


Magnetite


Unfit for elixir use–will rust due to Iron
content , not recommended for elixirs


Malachite


Contains poisonous/toxic copper, take care
when handling rough stones. Polished stones are usually stabalized.


Marcasite


Contains poisonous/toxic Sulfur


Peacock Ore

Contains copper and sulfur which can be toxic


Psilomelane


Contains poisonous/toxic Barium


Pyrite


Non-polished or non treated pieces, with time
and exposure to oxygen, may form a white powdery substance/residue which is
poisonous/toxic Sulfuric Acid. If this occurs you should not wear next to
the skin or touch.. Not recommended for Elixirs.


Quantum stone


Contains poisonous/toxic copper, take care
when handling rough stones.


Realgar


HIGHLY TOXIC levels of Arsenic. Wash hands
after use, keep away from CHILDREN!! Do not put hands near eyes or mouth before
washing hands.


Serpentine


Fibrous forms contain asbestos. Wash hands
after use. Not recommended in elixir preparation.


Sulfur

Contains sulfur !?!


Stibnite


Contains lead and antimony. Not recommended
for elixirs.


Smithsonite


Contains zinc and may contain copper (green
Smithsonite) Poisonous/toxic


Tiger Eye


Fibrous form contains may asbestos (under
debate), Not recommended
to use raw forms for elixirs.


Torbernite


Radioactive


Tremolite


Fibrous forms contain asbestos. Not recommended

AKA Idocrase Fibrous forms contain asbestos.

Zircon


A rare form known as Cyrtolite is Radioactive
